Digital transformation is a buzzword, but it is also a thing. It is happening all around us. I spoke at a large French bank last week in Europe on the impact of digital transformation on the workforce. This was a hot topic within the bank. How can they more effectively manage a workforce of millennials that has grown up using all things social, mobile, cloud based and hyper-personalized? Millennials think different, act different, work different, communicate different, are motivated differently and require different ways of being managed. It was a fascinating discussion.
Digital transformation is about using data (digits) to run better and run different. Data is being produced at an increasing rate as a result of the Internet, mobile devices, mobile applications, sensors and the continuing convergence of the physical world with the digital. This data, if understood, can be used effectively as a competitive advantage. Companies today are trying to understand how they should implement new strategies because of this. It is a very important issue that impacts marketing, sales, customer support, R&D and just about everything else.
